Owing to the extreme heat and resulting fatigue, this is the only pic I have of glorious Futaleufu |
On October 24, 2010, I did something bold. I quit my job as a fishery biologist with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and embarked on a 6 month journey to South America. My adventure included as much meat, malbec, and mountains as possible. I started this blog to document that experience, but when I returned to everyday life I stopped righting. Now 8 years later and back in Alaska, I'm picking up where I left off.

10-Feb Futaleufu to Esquel
Futaleufu is nestled in the mountains along a stunning river, but it is largely a gringo community owing to the world class river rapids. Aside from finding an outstanding restaurant, I wanted to get out asap to meet my colleague Al from DFO Whitehorse in Esquel.
After spending 2 hours updating the blog, I tried my hand at hitch hiking. Two hours later, I was finally picked up by a cab and for $8 USD, I arrived in Esquel in sweltering heat.
