We met the guide at 10:00am for coffee and to exchange pictures. Ercio is really a great guy. After running errands with Ercio and his next client, we purchased bus tickets for the redeye to San Pedro de Atacama then hopped a mini-bus to Caldera and Bahía Inglesa (the beach). The first bus company would not take us because the tsunami warning had not been officially lifted even though the threat had passed. We arrived in Caldera at 3:30 and were disappointed by how filthy the beach was, so we went to Bahía Inglesa which is a Chilean beach resort.
It was much cleaner and more scenic with beautiful rock formations in the water. We spent an hour or so here before looking for food. The gastronomy in Copiapó leaves something to be desired and the seafood in Bahía Inglesa is highly rated. However, owing to the evacuations due to the tsunami warning, everything was closed. Just my luck.
We finally found a mediocre place in CAldera called Empanadopolis, of which the best that can be said is that it was better than anything Copiapó has to offer.
