On October 24, 2010, I did something bold. I quit my job as a fishery biologist with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and embarked on a 6 month journey to South America. My adventure included as much meat, malbec, and mountains as possible. I started this blog to document that experience, but when I returned to everyday life I stopped righting. Now 8 years later and back in Alaska, I'm picking up where I left off.

Isaac Hayes' pimp mobile
No trip to Memphis would be complete without a trip to Soulville USA- the Stax Records musuem. It was super cool! The best part was seeing Isaac Hayes turquoise caddy with white shag interior.

Day 5 Sedona
What a great place! Sedona itself is a little too boutique-y for me, but the area around it is amazing. We did one hike, but after I ran into a javelina, we wimped out. Instead, we went to Cathedral Spires. Dad managed to scramble up a class 4 hike in good form. Very impressive for 71 years!

Mojave Desert Nat'l Park
To break up the drive out of Barstow, we stopped in Mojave National Park on day #3, November 11. We pretty much had the park to ourselves and did a short, yet stunning little hike.

Saluting General Sherman
The first stop on my cross country trip with dad was Sequoia National Park. General Sherman is the largest tree in the world. It's diameter is over 35' across and the circumference is over 100'! My dad visited this same tree when he was 16 and was adamant about seeing it again.
