On October 24, 2010, I did something bold. I quit my job as a fishery biologist with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and embarked on a 6 month journey to South America. My adventure included as much meat, malbec, and mountains as possible. I started this blog to document that experience, but when I returned to everyday life I stopped righting. Now 8 years later and back in Alaska, I'm picking up where I left off.

Next stop...Portland
I must have had a moment of weakness when I said yes to giving a paper at the North Pacific Marine Science Organization (PICES) annual conference. I spent the remainder of the week preparing and scoping out potential job opportunities for when I return. The PICES presentation was to be my last academic act for 6 whole months!

Seattle Bound
I am free! Well, almost...
After months of planning and packing, I left Alaska on October 26. With a lot of help from my old college roomie Shasta and her husband Jack, we picked up my car and belongings at the port. We managed to get all my worldly possessions stashed in a storage facility within 3 hours. It's good to have friends!
